VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

VOLUNTEER & TRAVEL PROGRAM

1. WHY JOIN UNITED PLANET TANZANIA?

Have the experience of a lifetime and make a positive and important difference in Tanzania by either volunteering in one of our projects or by getting experience on a field of your choice through an internship.
Either way, you will change your worldview and you will learn and practice important skills.

With United Planet Tanzania, you will have the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the Tanzanian culture by living with an African family and by working alongside local community members. You will get to sample Tanzanian food, take the local transport to the project and even learn some Swahili, the official Tanzanian language.
While Tanzania is a peaceful country and has a stable democracy, it is still facing many economic and social issues, offering volunteers plenty of possibilities to make a difference.

2. WHAT ARE OUR PROGRAMS?

With the aim of creating an experience that best fits your objectives and needs, we run three different types of programs:

Volunteer program: whatever your skill set may be, make a difference by helping those in need at a variety of projects ranging from schools, hospitals, community centres or orphanages;
Internship program: practice the skills you have acquired at either your university or work place and share your knowledge with the local community. As an extra benefit, this would be a great experience to add to your CV;
Volunteer & travel program: go beyond the aspects of human interactions in Tanzanian communities and discover the natural beauty that the country offers, by adding an unforgettable travel experience to your volunteer or internship program. This way, you will not have to worry about missing anything out during your adventure.

Do not worry if you are not sure what to do yet, we can help you find the perfect program for you!

3. WHO CAN ENROL?

Projects are available to people of any nationality or skill level, however we do have a few requirements which you will have to meet in order to take part in one of our programs:

Being at least 18 years of age at the time of arrival;
Having a good knowledge of spoken and written English;
Being flexible and able to live and work in a completely different culture;
Being proactive and independent;
Being patient and creative.

Whether you are in a group, or you want to come by yourself, we can find the perfect project for you.

4. HOW LONG ARE OUR PROGRAMS?

Our programs run from a minimum of 2 weeks to a maximum of 1 year.
In general, the most popular length of time is 3 months. This amount of time allows participants to settle in and to truly experience many of the exciting aspects of life that Tanzania has to offer.

Our start date is flexible and can be discussed with you depending on your availability.

Longer-term volunteers have the option of working at more than one project throughout their stay, allowing them to make the most of their time spent in Tanzania by gaining experience in multiple locations and environments.

5. WHAT IS OUR FEE?

All United Planet Tanzania programs are designed to be immersive, authentic and comprehensive and to provide you with everything you will need to succeed. Our goal is to grant a positive and safe experience for all volunteers; this is why we guarantee constant support from our team and from your host family.

You can choose between three different programs – volunteer, internship or volunteer & travel program. All internship and volunteer projects have the same cost, which increases by the length of stay.

ALL PROGRAMS include airport pick up and drop off, two nights in a hotel in Dar Es Salaam on arrival, two days orientation, Swahili language class, placement in a host family (including three meals a day), in-country transport, UPTZ support before and during your stay and a project contribution.
The VOLUNTEER & TRAVEL PROGRAM additionally includes a unique and personalised travel experience suited to your budget, organised by us. You can decide to combine multiple itineraries and the price will depend on the type of accommodation chosen - budget, mid-range or luxury - and the number of people travelling.

We also organize a number of EXTRA ACTIVITIES such as cooking class, tour of Dar Es Salaam, a day in Mikadi Beach and a weekend in Morogoro, Bagamoyo or Dar Es Salaam. For an additional fee, one or more of these can be added on top of your selected program.

Volunteers are responsible for covering the payment of their flight, travel insurance and visa.

More information on our fee.

6. HOW TO START

Our enrolment process is extremely simple and straightforward:

First, you must fill out the enrolment form;
After that, our staff will contact you to set up a phone interview in which we will gain a better understanding of who you are and what you are hoping to obtain from this experience. At this time, you should ask any questions that you have so you can feel comfortable with moving forward to the next step;
We will then inform you of the projects that are available during the time that you wish to volunteer and we will provide you with more detailed information on our fee, depending on the length of your stay and on the package you choose;
Finally, once you are accepted in the program of your choice, we can proceed to complete all the relevant paperwork so you can enjoy a smooth and safe time here in Tanzania.

This process can take a few weeks to complete due to the time difference that may affect communication with some volunteers.
