VOLUNTEER & TRAVEL PROGRAM

1. WHY TRAVEL AROUND TANZANIA?

Have the adventure of a lifetime and discover all the natural beauty that Tanzania offers by adding an unforgettable travel experience to your volunteer or internship program. There is something for everyone in Tanzania and by letting us plan your trip in advance, you will not have to worry about missing anything out.

Wildlife, beaches, friendly people, fascinating cultures, Tanzania has all these and more to discover. Here are five great reasons to travel around the country:

Wonderful wildlife: with 16 national parks, 4 game reserves and 2 marine parks, Tanzania has the largest concentration and diversity of animals in Africa. Throughout the country, there are unparalleled opportunities to experience this natural wealth: ride through Africa's largest reserve, the Selous Game Reserve; spot the black rhino in the Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest intact crater; bear witness 1.5 million wildebeest and 200,000 zebras migrating every year across the Serengeti National Park.
Captivating culture: Tanzania has over 120 tribes, who peacefully cohabit the country. Visit a traditional Maasai village, where life still runs as if industrialization never happened. Spend time with semi-nomadic Barabaig near Mt Hanang. More than anything else, it is the Tanzanian people - with their smiles, friendliness and their culture full of dignity and history - who will make your trip unforgettable.
A mix of history and idyllic beaches in Zanzibar: get lost among the ancient buildings and labyrinthine streets of Stone Town. Learn more about how locals use spices for medical remedies in one of Zanzibar's spice plantations. Pay your respects at the Slave Museum, where the lives of those stolen away from East Africa are commemorated. Relax on one of the idyllic beaches in Nungwi, Matemwe or Kendwa.
Mt Kilimanjaro: Challenge your limits and climb Africa's highest peak. The journey to the top usually takes 6 to 7 days and will bring you in all manner of ecosystems, ranging from agrarian landscapes to artic conditions. The reward for the climber is the thrill of standing at the top of Africa and admiring the sunrise illuminating the plains far below.
Cosmopolitan cities and small towns: Dance Bongo Flava in one of the many clubs of Dar Es Salaam. Buy a traditional Kanga in Kariakoo or Mwenge Woodcraft market. Hike Uluguru Mountains in Morogoro. Take a step back in time and visit the ruins of Bagamoyo Slave Market. Whenever you are looking for a buzzing cosmopolitan city such as Dar Es Salaam, or for the peace of small towns such as Morogoro, Bagamoyo or Iringa, Tanzania is the place for you.

2. WHAT ARE OUR DESTINATIONS?

We offer three main destinations:

National parks: explore Tanzania's wonderful wildlife with a unique safari customised to your budget;
Mountains: challenge your limits by climbing one of Tanzania's peaks;
Islands: mix history and idyllic beaches in Zanzibar or enjoy the peace of Mafia Island, a paradise still unknown by most tourists.

We are always planning to add more destinations. If the location you would like to visit is not included, please contact us directly and we will happily organize it for you.

3. HOW LONG OUR ITINERARIES?

Our itineraries run from a minimum of 3 days to a maximum of 10 days, and although we provide some samples itineraries on our website, we are glad to customise them to your needs.

Our travel experiences can be scheduled at any time during your volunteer or internship program. For short-term volunteers we would recommend scheduling the longest itineraries before or after the program. For long-term volunteers we would suggest using the holidays given during their stay.

4. WHAT WILL BE YOUR ACCOMMODATION?

For every destination, we provide three options that range from budget to mid-range to deluxe accommodations.

We partner with several hotels and tour companies trusted by TripAdvisor and Booking.com. We are constantly collaborating with local structures to broaden the number and geography of our partner accommodations and travel agencies.

5. WHAT IS OUR FEE?

All United Planet Tanzania programs are designed to be immersive, authentic and comprehensive and to provide you with everything you will need to succeed. Our goal is to grant a positive and safe experience for all volunteers; this is why we guarantee constant support from our team and from your host family.

You can choose between three different programs – volunteer, internship or volunteer & travel program. All internship and volunteer projects have the same cost, which increases by the length of stay.

ALL PROGRAMS include airport pick up and drop off, two nights in a hotel in Dar Es Salaam on arrival, two days orientation, Swahili language class, placement in a host family (including three meals a day), in-country transport, UPTZ support before and during your stay and a project contribution.
The VOLUNTEER & TRAVEL PROGRAM additionally includes a unique and personalised travel experience suited to your budget, organised by us. You can decide to combine multiple itineraries and the price will depend on the type of accommodation chosen - budget, mid-range or luxury - and the number of people travelling.

We also organize a number of EXTRA ACTIVITIES such as cooking class, tour of Dar Es Salaam, a day in Mikadi Beach and a weekend in Morogoro, Bagamoyo or Dar Es Salaam. For an additional fee, one or more of these can be added on top of your selected program.

Volunteers are responsible for covering the payment of their flight, travel insurance and visa.

More information on our fee.
